In our continuing pursuit of academic excellence for our students, First Baptist Christian School had 36 fifth - eighth graders who qualified for the Regional History and Science Bees to the competition that was held in Baton Rouge on Saturday, March 30. Several of those students competed in each event.
Students are asked questions within their age group. At the History Bee, students were given a history exam for their grade. The Science Bee is a science-themed, buzzer based academic quiz competition. Students who were attending were also given an opportunity to participate in the Academic Bee, which consisted of questions across all areas of academics. All Academic Bee rounds are played with a lockout buzzer system and feature pyramidal-style questions that progress from more obscure to more familiar information. To qualify for Nationals, students must score in the top 20%.
We are very excited to share the results of that competition!
In the History Bee the following students qualified for Nationals: Beau Kleve, 5th grade; Eden Dunbar, 5th grade; Talon Lemoine, 6th grade; Mason Hicks, 7th grade; Jayden Davis, 7th grade; Mason Robertson, 8th grade.
Special recognition and congratulations to 5th grader, Beau Kleve. He placed 2nd in the History Bee, and also qualifies for the International History Bee. He also participated in the Academic Bee, earning 1st place!
The following 7th grade students qualified for the National Science Bee: Sam Yuratich, Mason Hicks, Eli Petrich, Peyton Moschell, Jayden Davis. Jayden also placed 3rd at the Regional level.
Qualifying for the National Science Bee in 8th grade are Burgan Luther, 1st place; and Kasey Pinac, 2nd place.
The National History, Science and Academic Bees will be held in Chicago, June 7-10. We will update you with the results for those who are able to attend these events.
We are always amazed by our students! Many of those listed are not only competing in these events, but have also competed in other academic areas, sports, the arts and are active in our community. Thank to our staff, faculty and parents who continually encourage and support our students to be the best that they can be.
